Running RCA's alongside Power wire for Amp?

I heard a rumour, that it isnt a good idea to run your RCA's from the deck to your Amp alongside the Power Wire from the Battery because You may pick up "noise".
I do currently have the whiny engine noises coming through the audio system but I still have to do the big 3 upgrade which I plan to do this weekend. I just want to be sure there isnt any other work to do while I am at it....
Please advise if the forementioned issue is legit or just nonsense.
I appreciate any comment from ye Wise ones.
