I think there is one little "10 " spanner bolt holding it in place. remove the bolt and pull out the speedo unit. I assume the O ring on it is done.

just a quick question, if the gearbox oil is empty, would the speedometer stop working?

Thanks

no if the oil is low the speedo will still work as it is driven by a gear in the gearbox not the oil level. If speedo stops working the cable inside must have broken off.

reason for this can be overfilled gearbox, or the seal/oring in drive unit has failed, then the cable turning in the sheath will act like a screw pump, taking the oil up to the speedo.

and yes if the gearbox has no oil the speedo will stop working, primarily because the box will seize in no time and the car will stand :P
