Right boys, it's about time that we have one single topic for this where we can all share ideas, thoughts, contacts, pricing, secrets and best of all questions...

First up I'd like someone to help out with a typical grocery list of parts you will need if you plan to turbo charge a 20v... what makes or brands of parts are ideal and cheap and where to source.

1. Pistons - I've been told Weisico are good.
2. Conrods - I've been told the stock ones are good for 0.5 to 0.7 bar boost (Blacktop or Silvertop)
3. Exhaust - who's the best for this?
4. Exhaust branch manifold - who would make this right?
5. Bolts - some folk talk about ARP bolts? Are they really necessary if you're just gonna run 0.7 bar boost?
6. Piping - again who should we contact?
7. Fuel Management System / ECU - I've heard that the Gotech Pro would be perfect and that this is all you need?
8. Clutch - a friend of mine has a contact in Vereeniging that builds the standard clutch to copper spec or something for like R600... sounds like a bargain.
9. Gearbox - I reckon for starters the normal gearbox with the above clutch is fine... for drag racing I will save for an LSD.
10. Intercooler - which one, what dimensions and what cost? How on earth will I find space in front to mount this???

Then my grand question to everyone is with about 130Kws to 150Kws at the wheels with the above mods... what kind of cabbies will I beat.

2. Ford Focus ST
3. Renault Megane Sport
4. Honda Civic Type-R
5. Audi A4 / A3 2.0T
6. BMW 330i E46
7. Old Spec Audi S3?
8. BMW 330i E90?
9. Any reasonably modded diesel - 330D / Cupra's etc.

AND HOW WOULD I FARE IN A ROLLING START AGAINST A M3 E46 and a AUDI RS4?

I've got the Speed n Sound review on the white SAV Speed 20v RSI which made something like 150kws with a Mitsubishi TD04 turbo at 0.5 bar boost and ran a 15s flat 400m at Tartlon.

Not too shabby I reckon... if I complete my mods and run a 15s at Tarlton thats like 1.9s faster than my current time...

1) For 0.5-0.7 bar I would even go so far as to recomend using the OEM 20V pistons, just machine the dome of the crown,
maybe even machine a small dish - and take 1mm off the big end of the rods to give around 9.5:1 cr

If you really want something a bit better ZE pistons will def do the job up to 1.5 bar with the right fuel mix

If you really have money to waste, then go for forged gooedies. Only place who
purpose manufacture Forged Pistons for 20V is ACL - R4k for a set from Gemini

2. DEF NOT 20V rods!!!!, I am wories about bending them just by looking at then, 16V rods fo sure
3. Xhorst - Stringray/Viper/TNT
4. I know of someone who will make it for you
5. Oem bolts is fine for low boost application
6. Piping - Stingray or Snail
7. XMS is also a good option with better features imho - thas why I bought it. Dictator if you are on a tight budget
8. Copper clutch (solid without springs) for sure, if you are going for double diaphram pressure plate you going
to need old 200mm flywheel
as these preasure plates are the only ones you can convert to double.
9. Normal gearbox for RSi-T4 and his 427kw - I recon its ok for you. TRD ls brand new is R4 excl from Toyota MS in jhb.
10. MR turbo sells brand new coolers from R1-1.25k

When I did Clickme car (Vireks now) it totally anialated my ST! Ony time I was infront was when he was battleling for traction
- cant compare aftermarket
turbo cars with factory stuff when it comes to preformance!

Rolling against a E36 M3 will be good match till say 200.

Some stuff you forgot - Valve springs - Best R1750-2000 you will make.
Water/Meth injection will also buy piece of mind.

Wave's motor is done using combi pistons & 16 rods the 2nd time - first time was arais pistons & BT 20V rods & it self destructed on the dyno when
they are bussy tuning it :wink:

A couple of more questions (note: don't have money to waste so cost is important)...

1. PISTIONS - Where can I source ZE pistons (are these 4AGZE pistons? and which model) and what cost to expect?
2. 16V RODS? So I can use normal 4AGE 16V rods?
3. Xhorst - Stringray - do you have a number of a contact?
4. Branch Manifold - what kind of cost for the branch manifold? Contact detials?
5. Oem bolts is fine for low boost application - would these be fine for 0.7 bar boost? Would ARP bolts be better?

Im presently also busy doin mine. Hoping it will b finisd b4 saldanah bt doesnt luk good. Dont forget about the plenum bcause standard airbox pops unda boost. Im using the 4agze rods couldnt get the pistons thou so just had the std 1's powerkoted 4 sum protection. I was also told that the ring glands r 2 weak on 20v pistons nd that i should use golf 1's :?

1. ZE ser 3 pistons from Twincamsam R1800 last time I checked
2. Yes normal 16 rods are fine
3. The number was given under which xhorst is best for 20V
4. Around R1-1.5k for manifold
5. Anything under 1 bar is low boost :lol:

7. XMS lite is <R3k and its from perfect power - Snail can tune it
8.???
9. R4k for LS only
10. ASk the oke whos going to fit the cooler & boostpipes to buy & size it.

I assumed that because be bought a turbocharged 20V that it came with a plenum of sort - but yes the OEM plenum wont do.

20V pistons are not like 16V ones where the crown is almost split from the piston boss area because of the oil slot in the oil ring - it has holes in
the oil ring area - just like a ZE piston.

And I would think they meant kombi pistons, nor golof.

Do you think I'd be able to reach a true top speed of 250km/h with 130Kw on the wheels and the current gearing? Not that I'd want to sit at that speed but just out of interest?

About the LS (limited slip right?) is this just something you buy and then put into the gearbox or is it a complete TRD LS gearbox cause R4K sounds a bit cheap coming from TSA.

Can any TSA branch sell this LS?

Man I am excited... I sit and stare at the engine all day long...

I just read an article in Cars in Action and it's about how the turbo charging of engines is the new thing... seems eventually big bore motors will start falling away due to laws and regulations around emissions etc.
